Jannah Lamu, Kenya Hotel

Lumu ISland, Kenya

SAILING AHEAD

With jetsetters’ eyes drawn to unsung Lamu Island, what was once an under-the- radar destination for in-the-know Kenyans is quickly becoming a hit-list hotspot. In part, the appeal is thanks to a new crop of luxury abodes and the latest arrival is the newly opened Jannah Lamu, overlooking the old village square in Shela. The third property from noted Kenyan fashion designer turned hotelier Anna Trzebinski, her vision marries traditional Swahili style and well-layered pattern and colour across minimalistic open spaces that sprawl across two buildings. In among the two one-bedroom suites a couple of two-bedroom suites, a sizeable penthouse and a two-bedroom apartment, there are plenty of communal spaces, including an airy terrace, and guests also have access to three dhows that will make sailing the archipelago a breeze.
