La Tartane Hotel

France

Inspired by the charm of Provençal villages, laid out across six buildings like little hamlets and taking cues from the Twenties and Thirties (while evoking a family home), La Tartane is defined by its eclecticism. Hot off the heels of a recent renovation, it’s set back from the bustle of St Tropez, while being close to myriad beaches. It’s an address that lends itself to a sense of low-key Riviera refinement. Poised amid Mediterranean gardens and abundant olive trees the 27 rooms named after renowned local expats – F Scott Fitzgerald, Ernest Hemingway, Pablo Picasso, Peggy Guggenheim et al – balance rustic with retro. Painted floors and mid-century furniture meet boldly patterned textiles, rattan bedheads and muralled walls and ceilings that speak the vernacular of modern heritage. Over-sized daybeds flank the pool, with plenty of dappled spots for lazing. Meanwhile, the vibrant terrace restaurant dishes up casual beach-club-style lunches before yielding to a lengthy Pan-Asian menu come dusk. The Côte d’Azur at its finest.
