Mandarin Oriental Mayfair, UK Hotel

UK

Moves are being made in London’s evergreen W1. The exciting arrival of Mandarin Oriental Mayfair on Hanover Square this spring marks the area’s first new build in over a decade. Architects RSHP are behind the sleek Vierendeel structure – a feat that affords a wide interior footprint – with its facade of recessed white and burnt-red baguette brick (inspired by Georgian terraces). The creative tone is set: within, 50 bedrooms frame a glass-clad central atrium that allows light to penetrate all 11 storeys. Throughout, design edge meets traditional British grandeur: all bold hues and metallic accents, rich haberdashery, burl wood and marble, sliding screens and sculptural lighting. A top-notch urban spa, rooftop bar and adventurous culinary offerings from chef Akira Back seal the deal.
