Maribel Hotel

Fur throws, cowhide rugs and mirrored side tables might sound bold on paper, but there’s a sort of mid-century, Pink Panther-esque charm about the retro style when it comes to the Sierra Nevada’s seasonal gem, Maribel, open from December through to April each year. Despite the Nordic-inspired spa, luxe bar and sleek sun deck, it’s worth venturing out into the landscape and cultural attractions beyond the chalet – perhaps a visit to Granada with its stunning Moorish architecture and sprawling Alhambra, a short drive away; or maybe the 100km of sparkling slopes and enviable après ski scene will tempt you to stay up high.

Wherever your days take you, return to one of 29 suites kitted out in caramel-toned wood and geometric textural palettes complemented by vintage artwork, and, importantly, heated hardwood floors to warm your toes. Unwind beside the restaurant’s suspended fireplace or keep the night going with a classic cheese fondue and stiff negroni on the terrace, below a vista of snowy peaks and starry skies.
