Paradero Hotel

Mexico

Among the wilds of Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula, framed by mountains and an abundance of cacti, sits a modernist masterpiece. The architectural edge of Paradero comes by way of a series of gentle-hued, curving concrete structures that slink surreptitiously into the terrain, set around a central garden filled with Mojave yucca, red sand verbena and Shaw’s agave. Interiors tread a fragile line between brutalist starkness and luxury, with natural materials softened by mood lighting and plush fabrics – Oaxacan floor cushions, sloping leather chairs made in Guadalajara et al. Rooftop Sky Suites come with outdoor seating, fire pits and ‘star net’ hammocks.

Close to Todos Santos and a 20-minute drive from the coast, Paradero is about immersion in nature, from dips in the half-moon pool, hiking and surfing to fishing and wellness courtesy of an open-air spa. Its cuisine is headed up by Eduardo Ríos, whose experience at Mexico City’s famous Pujol plays out in a menu of Bajan dishes fuelled by an open-fire kitchen. Round things off in the three-storey Living Room, with a mezcal-based craft cocktail.
