Overlooking the hallowed ground of the Old Course in the heart of the golfing mecca that is St Andrews, there’s no getting away from the grand heritage and, indeed, the original purpose of Rusacks. Thought of as the original ‘golf hotel’, it first opened in 1887 (eight years before The Old Course was given its illustrious title). Yet there’s nothing fusty or clubby – thanks, in particular, to its 2021 renovation. Sure, reading nooks, chandeliers and wood panelling keep the place true to its roots, but there’s a liveliness, a modernity.
What’s more, the Old World feel of marble-topped sinks translates to sheer luxury in the bedrooms (and 13 suites). Three dining rooms each offer a different vibe: there’s a light-filled brasserie, the One Under Bar
– often with live music – and a showstopper of a panoramic dining room simply called 18, with views over the Old Course. Where better to enjoy a round after playing a world-class round?
