Subtlety is not one of the features of the Alchymist. Rather, the look is luxury baroque in the extreme – gilded mirrors, marble tiling, frescoed ceilings and sumptuous drapery. The entrance features a koi pond and bridge. It’s all well done, though, and located just a few twisty, cobblestoned streets from Prague Castle, it does feel befitting of this historic capital. A 500-year-old cascading stone staircase and creaking floorboards in the hallways only add to the period feel. AEM. Rooms from £130.
