The Arch Hotel

50 Great Cumberland Place, Marble Arch, London W1H 7FD

A short stroll from Marble Arch, aptly named The Arch combines a classic Georgian frame with discreet modern convenience. Want to watch Sky Sports in the bathtub? Want a room service woodfired pizza? You got it. Nice touches include a free mini bar, Jing tea and a Nespresso machine. Breakfast scores high on detail, with bottles of freshly pressed juice and home-made seed and sourdough breads. The tiny Hunter 486 restaurant (named after the 1950s dialing code for Marylebone) features dishes from Shane Pearson, a chef with Roux and Bibendum credentials. Food is tasty and unfussy: roast chicken, fish pie, twice-cooked soufflé, chocolate fondant. The Martini Library turns out posh afternoon tea; there are buttered crumpets, and an éclair menu too.

Foodie diversion The newly opened Mount Street Deli (themountstreetdeli.co.uk) stocks hard-to-find artisan produce from the UK and Italy.

Come here for a townhouse hotel with a difference.
