The Danna Langkawi Hotel

Framed by rainforest, The Danna Langkawi’s white colonial-style façade overlooks a sweeping pool, pale-sand beach and the turquoise waters of the Andaman Sea. Rooms, suites and two villas are decked out with four-poster beds and lavish rugs, flooded with light from floor-to-ceiling windows. You’d be forgiven for staying put, but six different culinary offerings beckon.

Make a beeline for Straits & Co, serving Peranakan dishes that reflect the melting pot of Malaysian cuisine – crabmeat soup, skate, squid and Malay favourite, spicy sambal. Fill days by gliding up Gunung Machinchang in the SkyCab for mountaintop views ofthe island, or take a longer excursion to the vast Kilim Geoforest Park for mangroves, limestone caves and diverse wildlife.

Back at the resort, after dark, the shoreline glows with the green lamps local fishermen use for squid jigging.
