If watching elephants drink from a waterhole while sipping a cocktail in a 25m pool is high on your bucket list, make track to The Lodge Feline Fields. Set on the edge of a wooded island in the Kalahari savannah, the accommodation comprises three stylish pool suites and three tented suites, with as environmentally sensitive a footprint as possible.

In addition to ticking off the Big Five, guests can make use of a clay tennis court (built from an old, abandoned termite mound), go mountain biking, enjoy spa treatments in a rooftop lounge, hone their golf swing on the bush driving range or go horseriding across the dunes.

Back at base, meals come courtesy of Chef Pauline, using produce from the on-site kitchen garden in generous French- inspired plates. A sunset aperitif in the bush is a highlight, followed by dinner under the African stars.
