The Mira Hotel

118 Nathan Road,Tsimshatsui, Kowloon, Hong Kong

Vast, dimly lit, pulsing with hip music and the ebb-and-flow of well dressed people, the lobby of the Mira gives an accurate first impression of this cool Kowloon hotel. A member of Design Hotels, it is discreetly located off neon-lit Nathan Road, just 10 minutes from the waterfront and a short hop from Kowloon’s lively Knutsford Terrace. Aside from a superb location, the big draws of the Mira are its sensational underground spa – with infinity pool, gym and chilled-out treatment rooms – and its two highly regarded restaurants. Cuisine Cuisine has two Michelin stars for its contemporary Cantonese food while Whisk dabbles in modern French and Asian flavours. For alfresco cocktails, head to the leafy terrace bar Vibes. Rooms are stylish in a contemporary, uncluttered way but sadly there are no views of Hong Kong’s skyline. Arne Jacobsen’s egg chairs add a touch of design flair while the Bose iPod docks and Nokia mobile phones, which you can use for free in the city, are thoughtful touches. Breakfasts are fabulous – go for Hong Kong’s staple congee at least once during your stay. Rooms from £130.
