The Oberoi, Marrakech Hotel

Marrakech

Like the Saadian sultans, who influenced Marrakech’s refined architecture, The Oberoi spared no expense in creating the ornate rooms and zellige-lined courtyard of this palatial hotel. Carrara marble cools the rooms, and the finest craftsmen were employed to paint, plaster, carve and polish the cedarwood library, the glamorous Vue bar and the individually designed villas. In addition to six sumptuous rooms and the rooftop Royal Suite with its own pool, the deluxe villas arranged in the garden each comes with a walled courtyard and private pool.

Throughout, the decor is inspired by classic Moroccan aesthetics. Bedrooms feature plush silk rugs, decorative embroidered bedding, ornate stucco wall details and refined armoires that conceal well-appointed bar areas. Spacious cedar-lined closets provide ample storage space – an unexpected bonus in hotel rooms – while bathrooms are equipped with Anne Semonin products and Kohler bathtubs ideally positioned next to windows with a view. While only 25 minutes from the bustling Medina, The Oberoi’s 11 hectares of beautifully landscaped gardens, citrus orchards and olive groves feel like worlds away.

There is no better way to start the day than sitting on the terrace of Tamint restaurant, eyeing the snow-capped Atlas mountains while feasting on countless varieties of honey and jams. Come dinner, Michelin-starred chef Rohit Ghai runs Rivayat, the first Indian fine-dining restaurant in Marrakech, where dishes such as quail, coconut lobster and truffle chicken are highlights. Our tip: order the delicious saag aloo as a side.
