The Sanders Hotel

Copenhagen, Denamrk

On a quiet cobbled lane, just a few streets back from Copenhagen’s Nyhavn harbour, is 19th-century townhouse The Sanders. The boutique stay is within reach of the city’s art galleries and Royal Danish Theatre, which makes sense when you consider the owner, Alexander Kølpin, is a former ballet dancer. On arrival, an emerald velvet curtain between ivy-covered walls is pulled back to reveal a charming courtyard and Fifties-style cocktail bar serving high-end pours. Alexander teamed up with Lind + Almond to curate interiors that are both nostalgic for the era of luxury train travel, and yet feel fresh and inviting. One element you won’t find here is white-washed minimalism – instead, spaces are filled with plants, bespoke furniture and rattan details in sepia tones, with 54 design-forward bedrooms. After a neighbourhood wander, settle down in the restaurant for classic oysters and caviar, Dansk ribeye with truffles and Bordelaise sauce.
