Tel Aviv, Israel
There’s no denying that Israel’s second city knows a thing or two when
it comes to offering a fine boutique bed for the night. The Vera is case in
point. The 39-room bolthole takes a locavorian approach, championing
home-grown artisans and offering a hyperlocal concierge service, making
it a superlative base for exploring the buzzy beach city’s many charms.
Gritty post-industrial design in a muted palette of dove grey and dark
chocolate creates a calming urban oasis: think handwoven hemp rugs,
stone and brass sculptures and soft throws. A rooftop sundeck bedecked
in plants is made for basking and soaking up some serious city views, not to mention those photo-worthy sunsets. With complimentary Israeli
wine on tap and covetable organic amenities lining the bathrooms, it might be hard to drag yourself away, but the surrounding Neve Tzedek
neighbourhood – the city’s oldest – calls. Excellent restaurants, boutiques
and the Levinsky, with its market stalls laden with spices and dried fruits,
are also within pootling distance.
