The name translates as ‘Garden in the Third Heaven’ – a pretty apt moniker if you ask us. Set between two jungle-clad headlands on the tropical Thai island of Phuket, this all-villa hotel offers an intimate, secluded experience with all the amenities you could ever want. Each luxury space boasts its own infinity pool and stunning views across the Andaman Sea, perhaps best appreciated of an evening, when a rainbow of colours appears as the sun dips below the horizon. The beach – virtually inaccessible to non-residents – is as close to private as you can get. Its floating ‘pier’ is perfect for snorkelling and spotting damselfish, white snapper and colourful clownfish. There’s a full range of watersports, or you could just take a dip in the 45m pool. Rooms are designed with heavy Oriental wood and luxe furnishings. Thick mattresses, made up with crisp white, fine cotton sheets, make it hard to drag yourself down for breakfast in the morning, but it’s a trip worth making. Surplus to the superb buffet of fresh produce are myriad dishes prepared to order – whether that’s eggs Benedict, or maybe Japanese or Thai dishes. For an unmissable dinner, try the in-villa barbecue, where a personal chef creates a poolside banquet of meat and fish.A touch of Hollywood comes courtesy of the new Director’s Den package, which gives guests a chance to have their stay captured on camera. Using professional techniques and equipment (including a drone for aerial shots), the team edits footage for a lasting memory. It’s a touch narcissistic, but proper fun. For a hotel of this quality, which has faultless service, and is laid-back, unpretentious and friendly, it goes without saying that prices are not for all pockets. But it really is good value.
