Copenhagen, Denmark
Transforming the neo-baroque Central Post and Telegraph building – a Danish landmark since 1912 – into a boutique hotel was no easy feat, but the team at the recently-launched Villa Copenhagen have ticked all the boxes when it comes to modern Scandi comfort, design nous and forward-thinking sustainability practices. The 390 rooms and suites draw inspiration from paintings by Vilhelm Hammershøi: all muted hues, gold accents and high ceilings, with restored windows overlooking the courtyard atrium or the Tivoli Gardens. Our top picks? The luxe Shamballa Suite and the Earth Suite – an eco-conscious paradise made up entirely of recycled materials.
Fuel up on pastries from the on-site bakery before you set out to explore the waterfront or nearby art museums. On your return, relax at the rooftop pool (warmed by the hotel’s excess heat), order up sourdough pizza from RUG Garden or share an oyster platter at Brasserie Kontrast.
